Your Website Flipping Questions Answered

July 6, 2009

I've noticed that you read my blog a lot, THANKS! Lemme know if there's ever anything I can do for you email me, twitter me, or facebook me

The other day when I posted that State of the Industry Report a lot of you had questions in the blog comments. I answered them all of course, but they were very important questions that I thought everyone should have the answers too.

Plus, you’ll get to see a sneak peak into my new house in Tampa (Brandon), Florida…

Now that I have finally found the best methods to help the most people, we’ll be talking a lot of about website flipping. However, we won’t just be talking about flipping sites. We’ll be talking about the “what do you do to make a site flippable” stuff like traffic strategies, web business models, increasing conversions, listbuilding, and everything else that makes a websites value go up.

It’s Internet marketing with the purpose of eventually flipping your site for a big pay day at the end. Whether you do it once a week or once a year… It’s still the goal if you are a “siteflinger.”

Before I duck out for the evening I wanna know if I have any siteflingers out there? Is anyone with me in learning and applying high caliber Internet marketing strategies with the goal of eventually cashing out with a big website sale?

If you are a siteflinger or want to be a siteflinger… Let us know in the comments below ;-)

    Hi Justin,

I signed up for Website Flipping Masters the other day. I've tried out other 'so called' flipping programs/systems and they simply don't work. I mean, the are valid but you need $1000's to start. It's been two days and already I've learnt more in week 1 of your 21 week course than I have over a month of someone else's entire course!

I'm so excited and can't wait to digest the rest of the 21 weeks. I'm just getting started with the 5 free flips and getting started on the 5k flow chart.

i Just wanted to pop by and introduce myself and say hi. I'll be sticking around and look forward to getting my T-shirt at the end! lol :-)

    All the best,

    Russ.

Congrats on your new home and office!
  • Congratulations on your new home! thanks for being a great teacher
  • Sometimes it's really that simple, isn't it? I feel a little stupid for not thinking of this myself/earlier, though.
  • Justin, you just gave away one of the best ideas for flipping ever with the idea of selling a site for $1 and baking in affiliate commissions for the things that make it work. you went kinda fast, any way you could make a blogpost on it or reply here w/a sweet list?

You're really drop kicking other flippers with your info - you'll own this space in a year!
  • Thank you all for sharing this valuable information.
  • Hey Justin and chaunna,

Your new office looks fabulous, when you've settled in give a tour!

Very interested in website flipping - need to learn more. SO BRING IT ON!
I have some sites that I know need tweaking, but then could earn some good site flipping money.

Have taken a few days off (Just become a first time Nanna - Lyndon and I have one gorgeous grandson) now back into it BIG TIME! Cannot wait to start the ball rolling again.

I have a large exercise book with ideas but need to concentrate on getting 100 people into 2 continuity sites I have going at the moment and will be flipping them!

    Love and Light

  • Hey Justin,

I haven't flipped any web sites before simply because in my marketing I use different model. "Flinging," as you and Chaunna call it is not a problem for me. I have experience flinging website, i.e. hyper optimizing them for SEs, indexing quickly, etc.

I have a big site that I use for now for myself, but if I decide to sell it, I would probably sell it for around 5K because of all the things that are built in it.

    Anyway, another great post man.

  • Justin,

You are one of the most inspirational cats on the block. Thanks for all the value you add to this IM universe.

The plan sounds simple and it perked my interest when you described how you feel more inspired in the creation side of projects and less on the maintaining side - I feel ya!

I'm gonna take another look at this model and look forward to learning more from you.

Thanks again for keeping it real

    Best

    Hey Justin,

Was great to hear you talk about website flipping again - It's been long since the good old days of 'SiteflipAcademy" lol - miss the daily 'live' session : )

But now I totally understand why you moved away slightly onto affiliate/traffic marketing and monetization - it was just so your members could climb that next step.

Your story always hits home - I build a site and it's barely finished that I move onto another site - Love the building and putting together but not the keeping :)

You got me started on a good thing with site flipping and I'm sticking with it for the long run ..... I know it will pay of soon.

To Everyone else still deciding whether they can make money Site Flipping - YES YOU CAN!
Believe that you can do it, Believe in Justin and Stick with it .... I Do!
  • welcome to Florida Justin/Chaunna

I hope you are prepared for the record breaking heat we have been experiencing.

I have looked at various business models, learnt about SEO, PPC, and all sorts of ways of generating traffic {time demanding hey}, bought a few courses from Russell Brunson.....I have not considered site flinging as an option, I think for the youthful life i want to live, this well could be the missing piece of my jig-saw puzzle.

As always, thank you for your contributions, there are always full of meat, big chunky sizes worth chewing on, over and over....

Welcome to Florida - land of frauds. Be careful down there. I would love to learn site flipping. I know the basics and have a couple blogs and 4 squidoo lenses and have not made a dollar yet. I am ready to take off, learn and succeed with your help.
  • Yes, i want to learn about flip site and be siteflinger.
  • this is an unrelated question justin/chaunna did you use thesis to build this site? i have been thinking of buying it, right now i have been using xsitepro which works fine but i think i might start doing some sites with thesis too.

just curious if it is thesis and if you recommend buying it.
  • Hey Aaron,

Not to answer Justin and Chaunna's question, but yes, this site uses the Thesis theme. It is definitely a great theme. I plan on getting it. . . Eventually!

    Hi Justin and Chaunna,

Congrats on your new digs. I bet you'll be glad when you're totally settled.

Can you make the 14/30 day flipping challenges available free or for a fee since the forum is closed down. I prefer getting bored vs ADD, that's why I enjoyed Timeshare flipping on eBay for 7 years. It was a new project about every 2 weeks, new designs/templates I created myself.

I'm working on rebuilding a brick/mortar nail salon site for a friend now to learn the mechanics. Thanks that I know some HTML and a few other things. I watched your Weebly video but would like to be more Pro about this..

I didn't finish the other course, really not too interested in blogging but I guess they're flippable too. Have you heard of Content Hurricane, article spinning software, amazing. Look on the WSO forum, it's free for now.

Best Wishes & Luv , loriG
  • Hey Justin,
I have been putting a lot of effort into Affiliate Marketing, because I saw this as an easy way to enter the Online Market. I agree with you that knowing how to flip a site is a good skill to have as a business model.

I love the Affiliate model that you presented in the video. You got me to put up my first blog so I am definitely with you in learning how to apply high caliber Internet marketing strategies with the goal of eventually cashing out with a big website sale.

I love the Florida look. Welcome back to God's country!

  • Very good info on the selling price points. I am currently working on getting this blog going so that I can flip it for $50 profit. (Cost me $35 to get it going).

  • Hi,
I bought your sitefling, and is very interested fling site. But since I'm a newbie, it's pretty hard for me to the conversion part. Can you teach us something about the convertion (not everyone of us can write good convertable articles). I'm a single mom with a kid, this site fliping business is the best option I could possible have. Thank you ahead for teaching and helping us so much. Bless you!
  • James Robinson
I'm interested in site flipping. I got the bug when you launched site flip academy. I never joined because I didn't know u. I've been following more closely for a few month and like what you and your wife offer. Good content. I thought about joining site flip academy, however it seems that you have sold it. I don't know if I'll be getting what I need seeing that someone else is running it. I thought about joining Wealthy Affiliates. What's your thought?
  • Justin Brooke
I did sell SiteFlipAcademy but that doesn't mean the over 40 hours of video lessons inside are now worthless!

As for Wealthy Affiliate I think it is hands down the best membership site for Internet marketers of all levels to be a member of. I've been a member for years.
  • I do not know anything about website flipping. I have become pretty good at creating websites, getting ranked, getting traffic and making a little money here and there with affiliate marketing, but then, I lose interest.

I am really looking forward to becoming a site flipper. I have the same ADD that you have. I love doing everything that it takes to get a site where it needs to be, but I hate maintaining it. I get bored after about 1-2 months. I like to be working on the next project.

I am now ready to become the site flipping prince! I will give you the king title, for now. . . Ha Ha Ha!

    Thanks for the Q & A!

Chris dude you are doing an excellent job and you're going to "make it" just keep taking action on everything like you are doing and it will add up.

Glad to have you on as a SiteFling Protege beta tester
  • Thanks Justin!

I am glad to be a part of something special!

I am really looking forward to what you are putting together. Teach me to do what you do so that my wife and I can move to Florida as well!

    Thanks!

  • I see you're wearing a "Florida shirt" now! ;)

Excellent answers, especially when explaining that website flipping is everything "wrapped into one". Flipping a site is ultimately the reward you get for being good at one or more aspects of Internet marketing (or design, or software building, etc.). The more skilled you are, the better the site is and the more money you will make. I think a lot of people considerate it "separate", which it's really not the case on the big scheme of things.

As for the sales/prices, I'm not going to disagree with you on how much you can get, but it does depend on a lot of variables. For instance, I sold a site (a blog and an ebook) for $1297 that had no traffic and no revenue - fresh off the keyboard. But, selling it as a "business in a box" with a hot design and original content increases the value. So, it really depends on what you can add and at what cost.

Sometimes I see sites go for 10-12 x revenue or more, but usually they will have a really solid foundation and/or long term, consistent revenue. For instance, if you had a site that made $2,000/month consistently for the past 12 months from organic traffic only, with no signs of any real fluctuation, in a niche that isn't really "trendy", then you can likely get a pretty high price for it. Sounds like a golden egg, I know, but they're out there! ;)

Anyway, put me on this new flip list, man, what the Hell? I've spent a long time renting a bachelor pad in your head. The least you could do is bump me up to the Penthouse Suite! lol (in case you missed that one, that's a reference to your awesome post in the Mafia forum from a while back!)

    Cheers!

Yeah there definitely are some circumstances but that would have turned a 20 minute video into a 2 hour video if I went into all of those.

I was talking about the majority to save time... As with all things, a little extra elbow grease goes a long way.

P.S. Email me and I'll put you on whatever list you want, You already have the keys to the penthouse you just haven't come by to pick them up.

    Hey Justin,

I don't flip sites for a living but do sell them off when I lose interest in them. Like many marketers I tend to spread myself way too thin, also many niches are just too boring to promote on a regular basis so I sell the site before traffic starts to fade.

Hoping to learn some tips to make my sites worth more.

Congratulations on the new house - I'm guessin' you left the snow shovel back in Idaho.

You are sitting on a $15,000 per month or more business with the skills you just mentioned. Just need to show you a few small changes you can make and you're going to see a whole lot of new profits.
  • Great stuff man! Keep it up :)

When we move into our "new" new place in a October I'll give you a tour. The guy who we got this house from was a fraud and we're making the best out of it until we find a new place.

We do really like this bedroom though!

I would be interested in learning how to flip websites. I work online at least 20 hours a week doing what I do now plus still working the crappy 9 to 5. I am just like you justin, I can't have my life become repetitive like a "real job" is, which is why I love the internet and what doors it opens for me.

I have multiple websites mostly in affiliate and ppc monetization methods. What I do is just create a website in a very specific niche, use seo strategies to get ranked high in SE's and then leave the site alone and let it make money.

But I want my business to become more diversified so learning how to flip a website would be a good thing to learn now.

    Hi Justin!

I've followed you and Chaunna since the SiteFlipAcademy days ... I kind of got lost somewhere during your transition/sale of SFA but I found you guys again at SiteFling. So far, site flippinghas remained my main business model. Although I did try out other stuff, in the end I keep going back to this.
I think I fell in love with it :)

I'll really love to continue to learn from you guys and take my site flips to a higher level..

Thanks and congrats on your new home!
