Step-by-Step System For Getting SEO Clients

Last week my wife (Chaunna) and I went shopping for condos in Treasure Island, Florida. We found one that was amazing and we’re dead set on moving to Treasure Island now.

However, in order to afford the move we’re gunna have to come up with about $8,000 on top of our normal bills. To hit that mark I’ll be taking on some SEO clients this month. Normally, I don’t do the service thing since it’s easier for me to make money doing SEO for myself.

If I want to live in my dream house though I’m gunna have to roll up my sleeves and do a little good ole fashioned hard work. LoL… Well, not me actually it’ll be my employees. I will have to get new clients though and this is the system I’ll be using to get them. Feel free to copy it for yourselves…

First let me give you an overview of the whole system and then I’ll drill down into the specific parts.

Generating Local Business Leads

A few months ago I attended several local business lunches. You can find these in your area by finding a local BNI Chapter or by searching for Meetups in your area.

Now if you already have your “SEO Client Catcher” created it would be a perfect opportunity to distibute them at one of these meetings. If you haven’t then just go there to network and introduce yourself like I did. By my third visit I was given a chance to speak about my business.

When I did I explained how every local business should submit their details to Google Local and that I would do it for them for free. (I got this idea from BJ Wright) They just had to fill out their details on piece of paper I passed around.

Now I had the interest and attention from all these local businesses along with their full contact information. From their you go home and fil out their Google local listings for them which takes about 15 minutes or you can outsource it if you’re intimidated – it’s quite simple though.

Of course you could just pick up a phone book, but this works better if you already have a relationship with these business owners. Especially when you have given them something first instead of asking for something first.

Creating Your “SEO Client Catcher”

An SEO Client Catcher is any marketing material you can use that will make you look like the obvious expert. For me I have my SEO Book. You can have an SEO Book also, it’s really very easy.

All I did was write a 35 page word document (including big pictures!) about my SEO knowledge. Then I went to 48hrBooks.com, which will publish any PDF into a beautiful paperback version of your ebook.

For about $200 I was able to order 50 copies of my new book in advance. Now I’ve got an offical bok I can pass out to prospective customers. This is the ultimate business card because it has all my information inside, contact details, and is basically a giant testimonial to my expertise on the topic.

But what if I don’t have $200?

What can I say… GET IT! You can print out your own but it’s not going to look as nice and you’re still going to spend about $100 on paper/ink. If just one of those 50 books gets you one client you will more then double your money.

Get a second job

Flip a website

Borrow the money

Sell stuff you have around the house on ebay, craigslist, pawnshops

Distribute Your “SEO Client Catcher”

This is where those leads I generated in step one come into play. I’ll be writing a one page letter that asks for an appointment (not a sale) with the business owner. In the direct marketing world this letter is called a lift letter. They work best handwritten or made to look handwritten.

There is a special way of writing this letter though as taught to me by Russell Brunson. Here is a sample of the letter I’ll be sending. I’ll explain the strategies in the letter below…

Dear [First Name Of Business Owner],

As you can see I’ve included a free copy of my book along with this letter. Enjoy it as a gift from one local business to another.

You may remember me from the local [BNI or MEETUP] meetings.

I’m writing you because I’m taking on one new client in 5 different industries. I’ve already researched your industry and know that I can get you on the front page of Google. When you are on the front page of Google you’ll see an increase in customers since you are easier to find than your competitors.

“Nielson-Online.com says 81% of customers are going
online first to find out more about a business.”

Being that my business is getting people to the top of Google, I can’t do this for two people that have the same type of business.

I’ve already sent this letter and my book to these other business in your industry…

Since I can’t possibly rank all 10 of you at the top of Google for the same keyword, I’m taking the first client who sets up a free consultation with me this week. The client that does use my services will certainly have a strong competitive advantage over their competitors. They will be the first person found by customers looking for them on the Internet.

In the beginning of this letter I make it known that I have given them something. This starts the law of reciprocity, which if you’ve read any marketing book or have any experience at all you know works like gangbusters. Also, make sure you use their first name! People don’t like reading letters not addressed to them.

Then I remind them where we met and how I know them.

In the third paragraph i tell them why I am writing, that I have already done my homework, what I can do for them, and why they should want me to do it. Right after that I drop some statistical data from a credible source to verify my claims.

Finally I get to the nitro steroids part of the letter. This is where I create huge urgency by telling them I’ve already mailed 9 of their competitors and I can ONLY take one of them as a client.

I end the letter why I can only take one client from each industry and the benefits that client will have over their competitors. Lastly, I ask them for a free consultation. This is much less intimidating then asking for a sale.

I’ll ask for the sale over the phone while I’m explaining my services and everything that I can do for them. I do this over the phone because I never want to discuss price without first building the value of my product.

If you didn’t get enough leads to write 10 people in one industry then just use the phone book to fill in the rest.

Follow Up With Every Prospect

If I don’t hear from anyone within 2 days of them receiving my letter, then I’m on the phone calling them to make sure they got my book. If I get them on the phone I’m going to say…

Since we’re already on the phone did you want to hear more about what I can do for you now or would you like to setup a free consultation at a better time?

(Never ask them a question that they can answer with “No”)

Sure it’s no problem to setup an appointment for another time, are mornings or afternoons easier for you?

(Again easy to answer questions without  “no” answers and go right into setting up the appointment)

Perfect, is Monday morning or Wednesday morning better for you? Ok [Firstname], I’ll call you then. Have a good one and don’t work too hard! haha

(Answer any questions they have with shortest answers possible and try to get off the phone as quick as you can – You just want the appointment! Too much talking can kill your call.)

Now once I get them on the phone for the actual consultation, I’m just going to start off with questions about their business. I keep the conversation very light, casual, and all about them. They’ll tell you everything you need to know.

I love it when business owners tell me things like “oh we’re not getting any traffic to our website” or “I don’t even have a website.” Those statements are perfect to use against them later on in the call.

Questions I ask them:

What is your website address?

How many visitors are you getting?

What are you doing right now to get web visitors?

What’s a typical customer worth to you?

If I could get you more customers would you want to do business together?

Finally you have to CLOSE THE SALE. Here’s a close that has worked very well for me in the past that I will also be using during this campaign.

Normally, I charge $2,000 but like I said I’ve already done the research for your industry. Since yours is so easy I don’t need to do as much work. I can do yours for only $800 and I’ll even let you pay it in payments. Half to get started and half when finished.

I can take a credit card over the phone right now or I can come pick up a check, which is better?

(SHUT UP!!! No matter what DO NOT DO NOT speak first. Let them answer and then you can speak. Phone silence is one of the strongest decision forcing tactics you can use.)

How do I take credit cards? Same way I would online except now I’m asking them for the details and filling out my online form for them. DO NOT tell them they can just go online and fill out your form – You’ll never hear from them again.

Outsource The Projects That Come In

Of course you could do the SEO work yourself, however, business owners are supposed to work on income generating tasks and delegate tasks to employees. My average client pays me about $500 per keyword (long tail only) and it only costs me about $50 – $75 to outsource their workload to someone on scriptlance.

Even my full time assistants only cost about $400/month each which means one client pays for a whole months worth of work!

For us, the only work involved in getting these local business front page rankings is about 500 backlinks which takes us about 2 hours and then some simple changes to their website if we’re allowed access. Then when they pay their second half of the payment we’ll offer them a maintenence plan for $199 per month.

The maintenence plan basically just makes sure that they stay on the front page. Some campaigns will just stay their by themselves and some will require update content and fresh backlinks.

Thats the system we’ll be using to get SEO clients over the next couple months so we can afford the extra costs of moving back to Florida. Did I leave anything out? Do you have questions?

Thanks a million for this post. I’ve been trying to gather local SEO clients for a few months now with limited success. I’ve been primarily using traditional online methods (PPC, SEO, CraigsList, etc.) and have attended a number of local meetings where other business owners rub shoulders.

I think this is just the shot in the arm I need, though. I knew I had to get out and meet business owners but I can’t say I have a strategy as detailed as what you’ve laid out. Thanks again, Justin. I just may have to print out this post and frame it next to my computer. :-)

The only thing stopping most IM’ers from making such easy money is a lot of them are afraid to get out and talk to people face to face. Once they conquer that they see what me and you see.

Awesome post. I have been doing SEO for a while now, and just a few days ago I started looking into moving offline and offering SEO services (Of course, just finding the clients and then having a few full time employees take care of everything else for me).

I had a strategy laid out for what services to offer & how to do the consultation, but I wasn’t quite sure how to get qualified leads. I also wanted to do something for them first, and you gave a great idea here. I know from experience that reciprocity works, so I will definitely use your strategies.

This whole thing is fine, but I feel it’s more important to really understand the actual operation to get clients results.

You pay someone on Scriptlance $75 to do exactly what?

If you have a $400 assistant, what exactly are they doing on a daily basis? Do they always complete the work asked of them on time? And how are you tracking their performance?

I’d really like to get a full understanding of how you equate 500 backlinks in only 2 hours.
I mean, honestly, I’m a bit tired of people saying things can get done in only a few hours, that they only work a few hours.
I personally want to see the Actual Work claimed to be done to achieve the results. I want to see exactly what is done in 2 hours & the results of that 2 hours worth of work.
Is this too much to ask? Or more importantly, I would like to know what exactly the outsourcers are doing on a daily basis for $400 per month – 40 hours per week.

I pay them $50 – $75 to build the backlinks through article, podcast, video, and software submissions to hundreds of directories.

My assistants do all kinds of things from writing articles, to content submissions, to building landing pages. I track their performance using DeskAway.com which is project management software available online.

We get 500 backlinks in 2 hours by mass submitting articles, blog commenting, social bookmarking, software submissions, and podcast submissions. Oh and RSS submissions.

Here’s one of the systems that one of my assistants is told to do everyday. 1.) Research a newly approved clickbank product 2.) use that products name as the keyword 3.) write an article using that product name as the targeted keyword 4.) record themselves reading that article outloud to create an .MP3 5.) turn the .MP3 into a video using title slides 6.) pass them to another assistant who mass submits everything using submission softwares 7.) create a full report of everything and upload it to our DeskAway account 8.) mark the task as completed in our DeskAway account.

What different submission softwares do you use? I have been looking at and testing different softwares, but you are much more experienced and apparently have more efficient software than what I am currently using. Would you mind letting me know what software you are using?

(If you don’t want to share with everyone for some reason, maybe you could email me and set up a deal where I can do something for you in exchange for a list of all the tools you are using?)

Also, I just checked out the 48hourbooks and I just realized that they only operate in the United States. I live in Canada, do you know of any equivalent for Canadians (and maybe for other countries, since I am sure there are people from the UK, Australia, etc. who also would like to know)

Hey Justin

This post really came on time for me. I have been working with a few local SBOs and been thinking of different ways to approach ramping things up. I offer SEO and web site development focusing on video blogs.

First, there are NO meetups and such here (I’m in Puerto Rico). I find more often than not that my 1/2 hour free consultations end up being hours of internet education.

Although I have prepared videos, mini courses and email attachments, these guys on average take 2 weeks to read emails and don’t bother watching videos even if they’re only one minute long. Perhaps distributing the “SEO Client Catcher” AT a meet up might move things along.

I already have a market study and letter ready (yours is way cool), but down here I really think a personal meet up would be the best way to gain trust and promote expertise.

What do you suggest be the title/focus of a meet up group I start on MeetUp.com? How would you go about promoting the Meet Up? And any ideas on what facilities would be appropriate for meeting with several small business owners (like a hotel lobby)? Also thinking on offering online seminars as follow up to meet ups.

Hey Margie, looks like you got it tough down there. You’re going to have to be the trailblazer that makes things happen and I think about the only way you’re going to do that with such limited resources is getting out there face to face. Start the meetup and then go to local businesses telling them what you are doing. But most importantly make sure you carry an attitude of you are doing it for them and not for you. Have their best interests at heart.

It’s quite easy to get 500 backlinks with a couple of hours work – if you have the right tools.

Write an article, spin it, post into a blog syndication network. Blog syndication subscriptions range from $27 to $97 per month.

Read a version of the article aloud and record yourself, add Creative Commons images to make a video, upload to dozens of video sites, with backlinks in descriptions. There’s a subscription-based service that will do this for you, I think it’s about $197 per month. Or, if you make your own videos, the $97 blog syndication service includes a video posting robot which will upload the videos everywhere for you.

Use a social bookmarking tool to create dozens more backlinks. For bonus PR, bookmark the videos and syndicated blog posts as they appear. You can buy a social bookmarking tool for less than $100 – once only fee.

Do it yourself, if your time is cheap, or outsource – but be prepared to deal with your contractors making mistakes and letting you down. It happens.

Great idea about those BNI type places for getting your SEO business from brick and mortar businesses out there. I find nearly all of them haven’t got a clue and worse, no website, but they’d love to have one.

Only the fear of the unknown stops them. I am actually trying to put together a similar package, but you’ve just made it easier for me.

Thanks a million – I mean it – that’s the target before 2009 runs out in ads and reviews. I can even put together a simple business with University students doing some website building for clients. and the SEO? It begins with a directory listing…

Great post, I do have one question for you.

When you do the Google local listing how do you
handle the Google verification process?

They call the merchant’s business phone
and the merchant has to give the verification code.

Or you can have them mail the post card, but it takes 2 to 3 weeks
and they send it to the merchant who has no idea what to do with it.

Oops good catch… I explained that part to them when I had my shot speaking in front of all them. You know like “here’s how it works.” Then told them that I would call them or one of their assistants right before I made the submission. They get the call, write down the numbers and call me right back. I then put in the code.

She is talking to local business owners and struggling a bit. This info will help her out immensely, and me too. Great blog post and I agree with so many who have said it before – this is good stuff and very necessary. (Oh, BTW, thanks for taking my phone call about a week ago. I was asking about the outsourcing. Appreciate the time you took to talk.)

I, too want to break into the offline business SEO. I have been buying everything (ebooks, websites, videos, etc.) on working with offline businesses. Here’s my SEO for Columbus Ohio website.

My biggest hang-up has been me – actually getting out there and talking to people who need my services. Sometimes I am too much of a behind-the-computer type of guy and I don’t talk to people face-to-face. I know that needs to change…and it will.

I do have one question. I have read your SEO Lies book. It’s good. So good that…if you pass this out to your prospects at these meetings, are you concerned about them using the information for themselves and NOT using your services?

I’ve been using video to get people the rankings, and also as a sales tool for getting the work, but I think the book idea could be much better. I might see what goes down better, by distributing some dvds and books… then see what response I get.

Absolutely great article Justin. I did want to get your thoughts on a couple of things. Since the local 10 pack is at the top of all local searches these days do you feel it might be a good idea to market to local business owners to get them listed in the top 10 for the ten pack? I know you said you are adding them to Google local business center for free. Are you taking steps to SEO this so they are in the top 10 or is that a service you offer them later? I really wanted to know if you could think of anything else to offer them for free upfront instead so that you could offer them getting listed in top 10 on Google local as a paid service. I would really appreciate your thoughts on this.

Hiya Justin

This is a nice simple little system and I appreciate you sharing it with me.

My business partner and I are experimenting with a slightly different business model. Sort of a joint venture with Off-Line business owners. They pay a few hundred £’s and we create small websites. These are in addition to any existing websites they may already have (normally they only have one and normally it’s not that great).

We then agree a % of any sales that are pulled through the new websites. The main thing is that we control this web asset and don’t have the possible issue of trying to work with their existing web designer.

I do think offering SEO to local business owners is a neat idea and is something they will appreciate… I must hop over to the Mafia membership site and have a look at how you get all those backlinks outsourced… So much to learn and so little time.

A step by step plan to go along with any one that is kind of “out there”. You know the ones that have the will,desire,hunger,and knowledge of what to do but they do not have the guideline to keep them from wondering here and there. I am sure that you know what I am talking about.

Awesome article, this is some great stuff here. The idea for SEO clients is great, but I’m more impressed by the $400 a month full time personal assistant! Where do you get a personal assistant that cheap from? Are they US based? I can use them even if they aren’t for the internet stuff, but I have some phone work as well and if I could find someone US based for that cheap to help me with this phone work, that would be great!

It comes across a bit… protection-rackety if you get my drift… a bit like they have to act or their business will suffer – like they have to do it, rather than want to…

Only reason is cos a video I made recently had a similar tactic… and it wasn;t received very well by those I showed it to.

I agree with you that Justin’s presentation is awesome …I wrote a post to that effect soon as I read his post.
About your thought re. “protection rackety” etc. I can understand just how you feel , and many readers could have felt the same way about such a tactic. Those of us who are sales savvy have found it’s in our prospects best interests to provide a trigger which prompts them to make a winning decision….NOW …

From your comments I gather you agree the SEO proposition will serve your prospect well..(win – win)…Yes ?. So may I ask you a question?….. If you were in your prospects shoes …. you delayed your buying decision for a day or so …. you’ve thought it over, made plans, you have mental possession of the proposal (virtually already doing it) …. called to say the “Yes” word, only to be told one of your strongest competitors had snapped up the offer !! all because you were unaware it was made available to others….in effect …I had NOT shared vital timing information with you… would you feel entitled to tick me off ??

May I suggest that putting all cards on the table is showing respect to your prospect, and valuing their time. There’s an American phrase I learned many, many years ago ….”Walk a mile in my moccasins” …
Tony, this is written with the desire to render you a service, and I sincerely hope you find it useful when using Justin’s awesome script.,,, use that script mate !!!

Hi Doug, I agree creating a strong sense of urgency by utilising scarcity or some kind of implied (or specific) deadline is essential in getting the prospect to take action (it is one of the basics of selling stuff whether online or not), but my qualm was more along the lines of the way it was put across…
As i mentioned before, I used this approach before, and when running the video by some people they said that it came across that way…

So having though about it, perhaps the better way is to say to them that obviously if it’s not for them, that’s fine, but other businesses will be approached.

It’s a difficult approach, but I agree a necessary one, it’s just handling it delicately and tactfully.

You mention the prospect feelign entitled to tick me off – well I’d like to avoid that, of course, but I’d also like to avoid any (even subconscious) resentment towards me because they’d feel like they had no choice in the matter, rather than choosing to choose this great service that will do their business wonders.

It might just be a cultural thing, where british people are more touchy to hearing something like this, where other places prefer the cards on the table approach. persoanlly I prefer that approach too, I say it as I see it, but like I said, many people balked at the way it was put across when I said I’d approach other businesses if they didn’t want the service.

I need a less blatant, under the radar way of saying it, perhaps giving them a deadline, after which they know I’ll approach another business in their area without actually coming out and saying it – they need to come to that conclusion themselves….

My $0.02 is that you’re still trying to make everyone happy. It’s literally impossible, I tried it for a long time. In the words of my mentor “If your product/service is really good and helps people, then it is your responsibility to market it as aggressively as possible. Because if you don’t you are not only ripping yourself off by not making more money, you also are ripping off all the people who you are not helping with your product/service.”

I know how the letter sounds, and I’m kinda hoping 9 people don’t like it. I only want one to like it and choose me as his consultant. The other 9 people would have been pain in the ass customers anyways. I’m only looking for the one aggressive person who gets my style.

Just one concern/question.

That “500 backlinks in 2 hours” idea – wouldn’t that be a red flag to Google? SURELY that many links so quickly doesn’t look natural.

I know people want fast results as far as the search engines, but I’m not sure that what they WANT is ultimately good for them in the long-term.

Can you explain, please? Thanks!

There is a fine line with Google about how many links too quickly is a red flag. I’ve done the 500 in 2 hours well over 200 times now and it’s working. I don’t know how many links is too much too fast but I do know that 500 within 2 hours isn’t hurting me.

We cover blogging, all types of submissions, project manager stuff, landing pages, and link building. Not a lot has been added but then again nothing has needed to be added. AndroidControlPanel is literally the exact same thing my employees use to run my business. When I come up with new traffic methods I’ll add them in there, for right now everything they need to do what I need is in there though.

Quick question. Since I’m trying to build an offline consulting biz (offline Gold model) is there any PLR type of material available similar to your “SEO Lies” book? I guess my big question is what could one use for their “SEO Client Catcher” when you’re somewhat new to this? All the physical work will be done by outsource staff but when new we need credibility.

My first suggestion is to read 3-4 SEO books, get yourself a couple high rankings in Google, and then write your own book. That’s the best way so that you’ll actually be able to answer questions that clients ask you and show proof of your knowledge. – Yeah, in fact I’m stopping there with the advice as I don’t condone any other way. Put in the time, pay your dues, and then go for the gold. Sry, if you don’t like the answer.

I optimized one of my friend’s business website for free, with the condition that if he got to the top page in google, that he would provide a reference for me to other businesses. He is now on the first page of google, and very happy. My question is how much to charge. I have looked around the net trying to get a figure, but the prices are all over the place. Do you charge per page, or per website? Do you provide the business with a report on what changes to make, and let them handle the rest, or do you get access to their control panel and enter it yourself? Thanks

I charge around $500 per keyword… Chet Holmes charges $15k for like 10 keywords or something like that. I like $500 per keyword and $197/month to keep it on top

Best is to hire a print shop that prints them out to make them look handwritten. Another good letter is a written testimonial or letter of recommendation from a customer.

Hi Justin,
I feel justified when I read of someone else with much more experience than I have doing what I’m doing. I’m talking about giving prospects a free book. I do the same thing in finding offline clients. It accomplishes the following:

1 Establishes credibility and you as an authority in your specialty service.
2. Educates the customer what they are missing form their current website (IE an autoresponder and email marketing campaign)
3. It’s a long form salesletter, PRESALESLETTER

I don’t close in the book, I just establish my credentials and offer a free consultation and close there.

One question you probaly cover in your book but that I’d be worried about when doing for a client would be the “500 backlinks in hours”.

Doesn’t Google penalize a site when the links come in all at onnce and not naturally over time? Justin, I’d like to hear more about this and if Google has ever punished a site for this kind of mass linking.

Yes, it’s $500 per keyword that they want to be ranked for… as for an upsell we tell them it’s $197/month for the maintenance package which will keep their keywords at the top (per 5 keywords). Also we normally try to get $2,000 for 5 keywords and then work down from their if thats too pricey for them.

We always used Paypal… and switched to 2CheckOut due to Paypal’s policies. Friends of ours have had their accounts shut down and money frozen, with zero illegal activity going on. We don’t want our recurring income taking that kind of chance.

Quality content on the site, quality backlnks linking to the site, don’t get indexed until the site is finished, and make sure your on-page SEO is decent… Basically if Google’s first look at your site looks like you’re half way done they’ll tell you to go wait in the sandbox till you’re finished.

I don’t know this for a fact but it’s been my experience

I guess nothing is set in stone when it comes to pricing and it’s understandable that if you can show how you can add value for a client , then you should be able to charge a fair price. With the local SEO market I’m currently working with for instance, “city name dentists” and related keywords are generating approx. 1,000 searches per month. You say that you charge $500 / keyword and $200 / month for maintenance, what is this based upon? What if one keyword generates 300 searches per month while another at 50 searches / month? Do you charge them less?

Also, to get first page Google rankings doesn’t say much when you’re doing localized SEO.. in order to gain any real exposure for clients, you’d need one of the top three positions. Do you charge regardless of position?

Man am I excited! I took the inspiration from your article and just landed my first SEO client! Woooo! Hoooo!!

Ok! Now what do I do?

Actually, I do have the idea that I need to get writing articles and distributing them. I also need to send out press releases and start commenting on blogs and forums.

But I am very nervous. I promised to get my client to the first or second page of Google in a very competitive niche: “Furnace Cleaning Calgary”. This is a very competitive market with the big boys spending untold thousands on consultants and PPC advertising.

So, now my job is to beat out all the money and talent that the competition is hiring, all by myself!

Just found your blog today. Really like it – keep up the good work.Domain info more important than you think :-) Domain information such as DNS, age of domain and even the expiration date are used to distinguish between illegitimate and legitimate domains.Why are google doing this? Simply to get all the factors they can to get an internal “trust score”.This “trust score” is used to eliminate “doorway” pages and spam in the search result.I’M not saying that it’s working perfectly – but they are doing a pretty good job.

So, I’ve been prospecting on the phone trying to get local SEO clients based on your inspiration (and depending on your book SEO Lies). I finally got payment from one client and am looking forward to another two in the near future. Thanks for the advice on your blog and your answer to my email questions.

However, I think I may have gotten myself in trouble by saying something wrong to a prospect.

I was speaking with someone regarding getting them on the first couple of pages in a Google search and I saw that they were the second listing on the map part of the search results. I told them that was different from the organic search results and I could get them placed well in the part below the map listings.

Is there really a difference between the two? Or, are they already well placed in the organic rankings and I can’t do better?

I’m hoping you’ll reply to this before he calls me back.

Google local is a completely separate entity from the Google natural search results. When a client tells me they are all ready listed at the top and I find out it’s from a Google local listing I explain to them that the more links they have on that page the more action they’ll receive from that keyword.

Having just one link on a page with over 10 links means you technically don’t even have a 10% chance of getting clicked. More listings equals more clicks and more clicks equals more customers.

It’s really impossible to guarantee a listing since you technically have no control over Google. However, we show them past campaigns and how we have a 90% success rate. The proof is what sells

Ok! I just finished reading the SEO Lies book. If life actually works that way it should be easy to get page 1 on Google for my clients. I hadn’t read it yet because I was busy getting more clients…

But now I need to get the job done… Let’s see how this stuff works!

Question: Can I use the same article for all the Web 2.0 sites? I know you have already said “yes” in your book but I’m just nervous because so many people have said I need something different on each site for it to work as and SEO tactic.

Justin, I just signed up last week for your newsletter, and this article is more proof you know what you are talking about.

I wrote a book last yar and had 400 copies of it printed up and they are still in the trunk of my car.

I now have a way to get rid of them.

I have read the boook aloud and put it on mp3s and am wondering if sending them the book and asking them to download the audio and pdf version if they want. Am I being to cheap?

I just wanted to thank Justin and Chaunna for the great advice and encouragement. I got a client using part of their technique then I got their SEO book and put it to work. My client was on the first page of Google within 8 days.

From my point of view that’s quite an accomplishment because his competitors have been spending big money on “SEO consultants” and website developers for about three pages on Google.

To get first page rankings… and so quickly, is really an achievement.

We get so many backlinks that quickly by using the http://Easy30MinuteBacklinks.com method. Which revolves around creating simple software programs for free and then mass submitting them to software download directories. Each directory then links back to your site for people who might want to checkout the creator’s website.

You know, the other night I had some friends over and most people do not understand what I do, so we don’t get into discussions. But anyways, a person told me how they spent 2500 euros to get their site built. which is great. Now that same person pays 400 euros for servers space per year.

But you know what. The site has NEVER ever been promoted! So talking to that friend I realized the offline business is a HUGE $$$!

2. The price seems low, I charge $800 per month for 4 months.

1. You don't but it doesn't hurt, especially when it only takes 2 hours to get them. Feel free to do less though.

2. It is a low price… I know guys that are getting $15,000 for one keyword. Just 3 weeks ago I got $2500 for one keyword that was so easy I had 5 front page positions within 4 days. Prices vary…

3. Mass article, software, and video submission. These are links from PR5+ directories. Not the highest quality but far from worthless.

4. We use a book not a brochure. There is a huge difference in credibility when you hand someone a book you've written versus a brochure or flyer. One makes you an expert the other a salesman.

Hey Justin,

I have practiced SEO, Web Design and Development as a hobby for myself and friends for a while now and built up a nice little portfolio. I have recently created a website which I posted with this comment and currently creating one specifically for SEO services. I am now looking to take the BIG step and making it a full time business over the next 12 months!

I am based in the UK (currently in the UK Air Force) and have been researching ways of generating a client base for some time now. I would like to start by saying this is the most relevant and quality post I have come accross! I really like your openess and wish more people would take this approach; I certainly will be.

I am going to get myself a copy of your SEO Lies book in the morning however my initial question to you is the following:

1. PRICING MODEL – In the UK most SEO companies simply charge a monthly fee and state roughly how long it will take to get the clients website to a top 10 position. After reading this I understand that you charge a set cost per keyword to get them a front page listing and then a monthly fee thereafter to keep it there?
I really like this approach as the client knows exactly how much they are paying to get results and once there, they will continue to pay as they will not want to loose them… What helps you determine that initial set cost? and what makes you take this approach?

I charge on a different model because I’ve found that business owners don’t like the “normal” model. My pricing model is more results focused and business owners like that.

My price is determined by costs + labor. Which means if the keyword is going to take me 5 hours + 2 hours of my writers time and 3 hours of my link builders time then that’s 10 hours. I like to get paid $150/hr for SEO so I would charge $1,500 to get them to #1. Monthly maintenance maybe takes me 2hrs and my link builder 1hr so the maintenance fee is $450/month.

You might be wondering, how do I know how many hours it’s going to take? That comes with practice and research. Everyone’s timing will be different depending on their methods, tools, and knowledge.

Just thought I would ask the question that might be on everyones mind… how did the campaign go??? Where you able to sign any new clients? How many letters did you send out, how many calls did you get, etc. After running the campaign what would you change if any.
