Welcome back to the 90 Day Challenge! Today is Motivational Monday and I have two KILLER Tips to get you going this week! The first is to create a schedule of your week.
You see, in the beginning when Justin was first getting started working from home and I was still working full-time – there was a time when Justin hated to be by the computer – he was constantly finding other things to do that kept him from accomplishing what he wanted towards his internet business goals. We would bicker about how much he was actually “working.” …It was a little bit of fear of change, a little bit of boredom in constantly having to read and apply, but it was also a LOT of procrastination because there were just so many tasks he either didn’t know how to do or thought they were too difficult and just kept putting other tasks in front of them.
As a teacher, the best way to get around “dead time” in the classroom is to plan out your day. So my first tip today is to get out a schedule of your day. What is your work schedule? How many hours do you need/want for family time? What other chores or “must do” activities need to be scheduled in? (can’t leave out the trips to the gym
) Then where in your day can you schedule in time to work on your internet business goals? Comb through your day and schedule in your times… then STICK TO IT! (That’s actually harder than the scheduling).
Now, it’s a pretty easy thing to say. “well I work 9-5 and I have from 6 – midnight to work on my internet business.” Don’t do this – this is the lazy way out… You need to sit down and write – alarm 6am, shower by 7 am, kids dressed & fed by 8 am, errands 8-9:30, gym 9:30 – 11am, Lunch 11am – 12, work 12:30 – 3:30, pick up kids by 4, homework and dinner by 6pm, showers and bed by 8, then work from 8:30 – 10:30. That leaves you 5 hours of actual work time – crazy how a 9-5 day turned into only 5 hours of work…
Doing this simple task will help you identify where you have extra time in your day, how you can reschedule different errands so that you have a larger amount of work time. Also, look into how to you can shorten tasks by relying on others. For example, can you rely on someone else in your home to help with the kids homework? Can you trade off on who cooks dinner? etc. these are small changes that can get in a few more minutes of work.
The next quick Monday motivator is to EAT YOUR FROG! As you may know, Justin is constantly buying books to read and goes through these phases of how much he reads and the types of books he reads. Well, not too long ago he was into getting over procrastination and getting the most out of every day and came across the lesson of “Eat The Frog.” Let’s face it – working from home sounds like fun, but some days you’re just so drained and not motivated that you end up wasting an entire day. TO avoid letting this happen too often you really want to eat a frog every morning – I’m not talking about a literal one, but that BIG, SCARY, DAUNTING tasks that you have been putting off for days and days.
Each day Justin and I create a list of “todo’s” this is something we keep on a white board in our office. The list gets edited as we complete tasks each day, but is a running record of things we need to do for the week. At the end of each week we reassess what needs to be done the following week. Now, every morning when we enter the office, we take a look at the list of todo’s. Then we circle the “FROG” this is the one we knock out first and then do the others as we choose. This sounds horrible at first… waking up and doing the “worst” ting on your list first, but it’s actually quite the opposite. You’ll notice that a weight’s been lifted and you have this new found energy to just Kick butt the entire day. More often than not, we end up clearing the entire board because the day just flows once the frogs have been eaten
I found this great video that talks about tackling the “Big Rocks” (aka priority tasks) first and helps you to see it a little more clearly. Enjoy ![]()
Keep Moving Forward!
Chaunna
PS. One of your priority tasks should be to consistently post new content to your blog… you’ve been doing this right? Don’t worry – this is often the “FROG” in our office. So make sure you’re scheduling it into your week and eating the “frog” first
