I’ve been there myself. If my customer base was the same in my former life I’d be making a killing online.
I just recently decided to turn my life around as well. What you described is so much a memory for me.
Since I’ve started online I’ve created a fairly good mailing list and have decided that my area is going to be based around advertising. I classify myself a “Newbie” but others have no idea how new I am to the industry. I think my salesmanship has everyone thinking I’ve been around forever.
Being a good marketer has brought me places I never thought I’d ever be including my past and present life.
It’s just too bad that you can’t fully disclose your past life when it comes to the underworld.
The good thing is that we’ve both decided to make the change for the better.
I’ve been out of the underworld for almost 3 years now and wouldn’t go back for anything.
I’m not making the money I’d like to be making, but that’s only because I’m so new to the online industry.
If people knew about my past, I often wonder if I’d get the same respect I do today.
I wish you all the best. It takes alot of courage to go online and let everyone know about your past.

As a performer, I do a lot of public sqeaking myself, so I can appreciate the difficulties you faced doing that.
That’s a great strategy at the end there, got a couple of clarifications to make, though:
when you sell it, I take it you have to transfer the ebay, amazon and youtube affiliations to the new purchaser – do you make new accounts for each of these with every site you flip? or do you ask the purchaser for their amazon/ebay code to embed?
I’m guessing when you sell, you give them the logins for the weebly account?
if you have your own server, would you still use weebly?

Great story, Justin…so inspirational and it reminds us that we alone decide and are responsible for who we want to be and who we become. I take it that this strategy still works today in 2009 and people are still willing to buy simple websites like you describe for $75??
I would truly appreciate your input on how to answer the 3 questions you bring up on the video so as to maximize the likelihood of our websites being sold quickly

@Paul – I would never tell you something that doesn’t work. Things like that can kill a persons reputation instantly online. The hardest part about that method is getting people to JUST DO IT.
I have a coaching student who took me 3 weeks to convince her and then her site sold in 11 minutes. That won’t always happen that fast but 24 – 48 hours is VERY common.
@Tony – No, it’s the new owners responsibility to switch over the affiliate links. Sometimes I’ll do it for them AS A BONUS for buying the site.
Yes, you can give them the logins and then just make a new account each time, yes if you have your own server there are better ways, yes you can download the weebly site and upload to your own server…

Hi Justin, thanks for sharing your story. You inspire many I’m sure. I had tried your site flipping idea when you shared it in an email and never did get a single bid on it. I have been following what you do online since I heard of you through Russell Brunson who I have also been receiving coaching through. I would love to get your input on why you think no one bid on it.
@Lori – I hope you haven’t given up just because it didn’t work the first time. If I gave up on everything that didn’t work the first time I’d still sitting on the couch high and eating grilled cheese sandwhiches.
As for the “why didn’t it work” I can’t possibly guess at it… I need to see the details of the flip. Mainly the site and the listing.
Oh, giving up isn’t even an option for me as I am pretty stubborn and I apologize if I came across as wanting you to guess as to why w/o even seeing the details. The site is imhers.com and the auction is at marketplace.sitepoint.com/auctions/55200. Meant for Valentines day but could be changed and used throughout the year. I thought the short domain name itself would sell it since it appraised over 2k at nameboy. I was thinking that maybe because it is listed as not unique content because the content is YouTube videos and product graphics of course aren’t unique and design not unique because the header isn’t one I created myself but am able to freely use and edit. Anyway, maybe I need to try and sell the domain only. Thanks again for sharing and giving me your feedback.

Hey Lori – it’s Chaunna. I just checked out your listing… I am assuming you either sold the site or sold the domain because it was a parked domain when I checked it out… but as for the listing – I’d say it didn’t sell because you didn’t point out all the positives of the site.
Justin mentions the 3 questions you should answer in every listing – those are the first questions that run through a buyers head and I didn’t see those answered.. also the first thing I noticed about your listing was negatives – like the content and design – I know those are ust check boxes, but If it’s a negative in my listing I leave it out… I point out the positives in the site, the potential it has, and how much the new owner could do with this great site…
I’d also say to put a little more effort into it. I am not sure how much time you put into it, but weebly has some fantastic themes for valentines day and a simple combination of articles, and youtube videos adds great value to a site because you’ve already done the leg work for finding valuable and relative content.
We once sold a weebly site for $450 and the only content on that site was youtube videos and a download i created… as long as your content answers the questions of the visitors that come to it – they don’t care who wrote it…

Thanks Chaunna for the tips you shared. I thought I had to click one box or the other and I definitely didn’t want to be dishonest and say it is all original content when it wasn’t. I see what you mean by the listing only showing negatives rather then positives of the site and what they can do with it.
I decided to try and sell it as just the domain name to see if I get any bids on it which is why you don’t see the site any more. I will most definitely keep taking action. I had another site I was planning on trying to sell as well.

I have been involved in the SEO industry for a couple of years now and I think this is one of the best guides that I have seen written to date.
I don’t know that alot of SEO professionals are going to like it very much because the way you have layed it out demystifies the process making it a DIY process.
