How To Get More Twitter Followers

Tuesday’s Twenty Minute Tackle airs every Tuesday at 11am Mountain (1pm Eastern). Catch the live shows so you can participate in the conversations. Ask questions, get answers, network with other web business owners.

Links From This Episode:

TwitterCounter.com
Helps you analyze your performance in building twitter followers.

ViralTweets.com
Let’s you build viral twitter campaigns by hiding a piece of content until the web browser sends out the pre-written message you provided to all their twitter followers.

TweetMeMe Plugin
Adds a “ReTweet” widget to every blog post to help your posts get more coverage.

FreeTwitterDesigner.com
Easy twitter background image creator. Having a more personal twitter background helps you give more information to the person deciding on whether to follow you or not.

TwitterLocal.com
Adobe Air application for your desktop that lets you search who’s twittering what locally. For example if you wanted to know about people twittering about wanting to buy a house in Treasure Island, FL you can target that area locally to see if anyone has tweeted anything like that. Lot’s of uses!

Twitter Directories:

LocalTweeps.com
Twitter directory for finding twitter users local to you (or anywhere).

Twellow.com
Imagine if the yellow pages and twitter had a baby… This site would be it!

JustTweetIt.com
their description says it best – “Add Your Name And Get Found Or Find Others Just Like You”

TwitDir.com
This came up in our search as a twitter directory, though it was down for maintenance at the time of writing. So we don’t have any information other than others have found it useful.

WeFollow.com
This directory is more for the best of the best of twitter users. However, you can add your name and with diligent adding of twitter followers you can get your name on this site which could drastically improve your following. Kind of like an Alltop.com for Twitter.

Twibs.com
This is a business directory for twitter. Which is kinda cool because lets say you wanted to ask a baker a question… Well you could find a bakery owner on Twitter and then send them a tweet!

Our final resource or suggestion is to get familiar with Search.Twitter.com. We feel it will be much more used in the future and is great for finding out what people are saying about any given topic. Really helps you join in on relevant conversations or monitor the conversation about your brand.

My wife also mentioned that we use Twilerts.com to automatically monitor the conversations about us, our brand, and the topics we cover. These alerts watch the searches for you and then send you reports as you specify either instantly, daily, or weekly.

Learning copywriting is one of the best things you can do man. Basically, write your own paychecks for life once you know it. I use it for everyday reasons too like getting the wife to agree with me on stuff hahaha

Thanks for putting all these resources together. Recently the amount of Twitter applications and Twitter related services has gone through the roof and its very difficult to find and follow all of them. So thanks for the information. It is definitely useful.

DonovanMc April 7, 2009 at 3:51 pm

Justin, Chaunna,
As usual the 20 minutes was filled with excellent content. I did not expect to see the twitter resource sites posted. I will be sending this information out to my small list. I am beginning to see the importance of using Face Book, Tweeter and Blogs to build my list. Thanks for the info.

Justin Brooke April 7, 2009 at 4:12 pm

Hiya Justin, Chaunna!

Great stuff as always – checking out some of the tools now. Should have thought of building that twit background tool. :-P

Wanted to let you know that you have a link up there to Twitter Local – should be .net – the .com goes to what I think is a parked page. Looks very neat for the local biz area ;-)

Best get back at it here…

Thanks!
Michelle

Justin Brooke April 8, 2009 at 8:41 am

Eeeks thanks for catching that Michelle… Another testimonial to why .com’s are so much more valuable. I knew it was .net but I was just so used to writing .com that it came out almost like a reflex.

Normal Joe April 8, 2009 at 5:32 am

Good stuff J Boogie! I’ve been talking a lot with a few peeps lately and explaining the goodness of twitter.

I’m like you man, I don’t like the autofollow stuff and I don’t like the follow a thousand people a day.

I had a similar list that I shared on a webinar last week man, with a bunch of tools you can use to actually find folks that want to hear from you.

Great content bro.

Normal Joe April 8, 2009 at 9:33 am

I was a guest with my buddy Markus Allen, he’s working on a new product and I’m involved in the planning/content creation a bit. I’ll let you know more about it when it’s ready.

as for the idea, run with it man…I’m onto something else that is a much better fit for me at the moment. I finally found my “thing” lol.

James April 8, 2009 at 5:39 am

You say you do not use autofollow technology in Twitter but you have an automated “Personal” message from your blog comments.

Do you think that is similar?

James’s last blog post..Internet Marketing Productivity Improvements For Maximizing Profits

Justin Brooke April 8, 2009 at 8:48 am

Autofollow technology breeds a following of people that really don’t care about each other. They both just wanted to move up another notch in amount of followers. The automated personal message doesn’t have any of those qualities. What I would compare it too are those DM messages you get from someone as soon as you follow them. Hows things been tho man, what projects are you working on?

Professional Website Design April 8, 2009 at 6:03 am

Thanks for the info Justin
Up until now I’ve had some doubts about how much value I could create for my business by using Twitter, but if you say that you get good value from it then I will definitely have a much closer look at it.
Awesome Resource.

Justin Brooke April 8, 2009 at 8:50 am

There is amazing value for businesses to use twitter but it has to be done right. They can’t jump on there with the mentality of whats in it for me… It has to be how can I help others and build relationships. If you jump on as a salesman you’ll hate twitter.

Anthony April 8, 2009 at 8:54 am

Very useful information you have here Justine. I appreciate it. Now, I just have to go through and use 50% of it, and I’ll consider it as having even greater value. That should get me going. BTW, based on a short video you sent me when you were learning public speaking, I went ahead and created a site for sale. http://www.weightlosstips4us.com. I just didn’t think it was ready to sell though, so I still have it.

take care,
Anthony

It’s Justin not Justine but no worries. Anyhow what are you waiting for with the site man? Get that thing sold! I would probably change the template you are using though. That one doesn’t have the right type of navigation menu that you would need and the header doesn’t match the type of site.

Agent 001 April 8, 2009 at 11:37 am

I made my own Twitter Background myself. I love your video, you have explained every tool you blogged about.

You have given some nice tips.

There is Tweet Deck. It is very nice. It is also AIR Adobe Desktop Tool.

I use Twitter Counter. I made a custom Twitter Counter myself. You can look at it on my blog.

I think this is the first time I am commenting here.

I bought your SEO Lies e book and it is good. I recommended to my friends.

Great post, one of the best I have seen. I would highly recomend it. I have found the best way to overcome information overload. There is so much information out there that it is impossible to master it all. I have been getting over 150 e-mails a day from people trying to sell me something. The suggestion was made to me was to only follow 5 of the best and eliminate the rest. It works. This frees up a lot of time to get something done.
