Hi Justin,

I have chosen the How to DJ niche. I have written an eBook already and have a site selling it. it is not doing very well as i have not done any of the above.
In taking this course, I will be recreating my site from the ground up, from the lessons that I learn in this 30 day challenge.
The challenges and tips above are fantastic .. literally drooling to see the outcome.
Cheers,
-Ron

Hey Brad,
as Justin says, the big dog niches are harder and you're more likely to make nothing and be disheartened by pursuing these.
Even experienced marketers avoid these big dog niches and focus on the longtail keywords, such as debt relief for "ex-naval officers who like cheese" or something like that and then when they've mopped up the sub-niches they're positioned to take on the big one.

Someone I speak with (and I think Justin knows - Xan and Jan) made thousands with an info product on how to tie bows. Like ones that go in your hair or something. I mean how basic is that?
passionate about poker? Big niche. Can you do those fancy flourishes with chips and cards? that's a sub-niche you might look into.
Great cook? that's a big niche. Make the best clam chowder in the area? clam chowder recipes are a sub-niche.
It's better for you to make just $1 in an easier niche than to be disheartened in a big dog niche.

Also do your research. This is where I've failed miserably in the past.
I dominated the terms "instrumental Jazz music" and "students time management" and while both of them got loads of traffic, neither of them were niches where anyone spent any money!
I urge everyone to not only listen to what Justin teaches, but to also TAKE ACTION on *EVERY* *SINGLE* *INSTRUCTION* *WITHOUT* *FAIL*.

Good luck everyone.

Tony.

Great post Justin! I pulled out some "golden nuggets!"
- Where to find niches. I never thought about infomercials, radio, or magazines
- Red Flag/Green Flag - this is a great way to look at it.
- the homework is straight forward. I know it will take time; it's on point, and I know it's worth it.
Thanks,
Stephen

Your Book suggestion - Joe Sugarman everything he writes is great,

I went to Amazon, followed the link, and checked reviews. Found this:

"Advertising Secrets Of Written Word" is much more powerful
I purchased both "Advertising Secrets of The Written Word" and "Triggers" at the same time. Unfortunately I read "Advertising Secrets" first and was very satisfied with it.

Once I started reading "Triggers" it was like reading it all over again, word for word. Sugarman has taken entire chapters from the first book and inserted them into "Triggers"...

Thanks Justin, that makes sense. I didn't mention this in the 1st post but, your eval of the niche was basically the same as mine, which makes me feel like I'm starting to get this.

I'll get the research done today, and pick one..

Thx again,

Randy

Guitar lessons is a big niche but it's not one of the "big dog" niches. It's rare that you see infomercials or other mass advertising methods for guitar lessons. There are some but nothing like credit repair, real estate, weight loss, etc. etc.

However, there are some guys out there that are already kicking ass. I would consider them semi-trucks, and you never want to try and go head on with a semi.

Instead you want to go around them.

The way you do that is by either picking a sub-niche or a unique selling point. For example look at Twitter and Facebook. Facebook was the semi-truck so Twitter chose to just focus on "status updates" and nothing more. Because they had a unique selling point then, they were able to compete very well.

When I jumped into the "make money online" niche I didn't try to go head on with the Frank Kern's and Russell Brunsons, I went around them by focusing on Website Flipping. You need to research what the guitar market wants and then choose one of those things that you can be the best in the world at. Whatever you do, DON'T just pick one yourself. Make sure the market has expressed interest in the topic first.

Hey Justin, I'll make this short. I've found the niche I want to work in, but wonder if it is too big for a beginner.
I play guitar in a pretty good "Rock" band. Have played for 30 plus yrs etc.. Have a real passion for it. Feel like I could give good content to a WP-blog etc.
Simply, the only "Red Flag" that came up was is this niche one of the "Big Dogs" ?
Seems like there might be a great "sub-niche" in there, just haven't figured what that might be.

Your thoughts?

Thanks Justin! This is so great to see it brought back to basics & common sense, not hype (which has always scared me off and why I don't have a site yet!)

This is going to be a total newbie question... I read all the comments below and understand the ways of doing FBook ads & using adwords for testing... but if you don't have any website at all yet? Then I assume I'm just using the logical way of testing (red/ green flags, etc) in the good ol brain for now?

Yet more great stuff from you bro. I genuinely reckon you're one of the very few IM dudes actually helping people while earning a living at the same time. Good on yer! This 90 day challenge, do we need to sign up or can we just bob in and take part. Always value your stuff and keep up the cracking work. Following your blog advice over the last year has paid off big time, not so much in the make moolah online niche but a lot in smalle niches. Whatsmore thanks to you I just got my first big client to sort there site out. It's amazing how little mainstream firms don't know about IM. Thanks to you and thanks to Chaunna,

Hey Russ,

I was making general comment on the fact that what people say they want (in surveys) isn't always the same as what triggers them to actually buy...

So yes, your response makes total sense!

Hi Justin
Just wondering on your thoughts as to looking at Clickbank etc for hot niches. Is a hot product a Clickbank a good niche to go after? Is it likely to be a 'big dog' niche?
Thanks

Hey Russell,
I would definitely say there's a niche there since I know guys who work in it. You should check out the 'wordcamps' - wordpress conferences held around the world. Developers, users, bloggers, all sorts of people go to them.

Hey Justin
Thanks for the great post. Love the part about triggers. Can't say I've seen any much info about that anywhere else. I have a few different niche's that I'm working in at the moment and I'm not selling anything. I think you may have just identified my problem.
Can't wait for tomorrow.

Hi Liane,

Thanks! What issues are you facing with regards to triggers?

I mean, as far as triggers go for the Wordpress niche, I'm going to check out WP products marketing material like Justin suggested and try to pick out what i think are the triggers. As in, what triggers the crowd to buy.

I'll then test these with Facebook ads.

I hope that helps?
